About the Company

It was originally founded in 1991 by Rodney and Vicki Scott. Before opening this business, they were already in the precious metal space in Portland, Oregon and had four other prior businesses. After forming the company in 1991, they consolidated all of the separate precious metals companies owned by the Scotts. The new company is called affordable jewelry and precious metals, which they have shortened to AJPM. They currently own three storefronts in the state of Oregon but also sell products on the Internet to people from all around the world.

AJPM Precious Metals Purchases

AJPM Gold
Are you looking to sell your precious metals? This company is definitely interested in buying them from you. Just take a look around on their website to determine the value of the purchase that they are willing to pay for your precious metals. They have the prices available to view in the headers of the Platinum, Silver, and Gold sections located at the top of each page.

AJPM Scrap Metals Purchases

Additionally, if you’re looking to sell your scrap silver and gold for cash, you can definitely try to dump it off at AJPM. What do they consider scrap metal? Certain products like gold teeth, industrial parts that contain silver, and busted jewelry are great examples. Anything that can get melted down to be used to make new precious metals investments or parts.

These items may seem useless on the surface, but this company is definitely willing to give you good money to purchase them. And even better, you can reinvest this money by purchasing silver or gold bars or coins from their website.

On their website, go to the Scrap section and take a look at their precious metals calculator. Use it to determine how much you think the precious metals you have are worth. The calculator within this section lets you choose specific types of metals to determine the true value. Some examples are 14 karat gold, 22 karat gold, 10 karat gold, gold used in dentistry, and .925 silver. Enter the total number of grams that you possess of each type of precious metals and the calculator will determine its value.

Placing an Order

it’s not possible to place an order on their website if you’re looking to purchase platinum, silver, or gold. You can view these products online and learn about their prices, but if you actually want to order them, you need to dial the toll-free number and talk with one of their customer representatives. They will take your order via phone and give you a confirmation number that you’ll have to add to the memo line of your check when you make a payment.

To keep your order, you must mail this check within 24 hours, and once they receive the check, they will ship your order at some point in the same week. In some instances, orders may take as much as 26 days to actually ship.

AJPM Storefronts

This company has three locations that include:

  • 304 SW Washington Street in downtown Portland
  • 10584 SE Washington Street on the East Side
  • 4620 SW Washington Avenue in Beaverton

Does AJPM Have Any Red Flags?

As I was getting this article ready, I decided to check out online reviews from trusted websites regarding AJPM. The sites I checked were Trustlink, the BBB, Trustpilot, and the Business Consumer Alliance. I always like to see how customers talk about their experiences because this information is invaluable and it’s very useful to help you learn about a company.

Unfortunately, there aren’t too many reviews online talking about AJPM. You can always search for yourself to see if you come up with better results, but the reviews that I discovered were incredibly limited. So, I cannot truly tell you how the company does business or how they treat their customers.

Just because a company has few reviews, it doesn’t mean that their services or products are terrible. On the other hand, there are so many other great companies online with thousands of customer reviews. You’ll feel a lot more confident doing business with companies with tons or reviews as opposed to those companies that have very little or none.

Ripoff Alert: Is This Company a Scam?

I can say with absolute certainty that this company isn’t a scam. They have more than 30 years of experience in this business because they first opened their doors in 1991. And Vicki and Rodney Scott have been in the precious metals industry for a lot longer. They even have three storefronts where they sell precious metals to the public in the Portland area.

The important question is, “Should I actually work with this company?” And even though they seem legitimate on the surface, I would still recommend avoiding them for a few big reasons.

For starters, the limited reviews are a major disappointment to me. A company that’s been in business for more than 30 years should have plenty of online reviews. They could either intentionally suppress them or they have so few customers that they don’t even bother taking the time to write about them. But remember, this is my opinion and it doesn’t mean that the company is doing anything wrong. They may have amazing products and services, but I still recommend staying away.

Next, the ordering process is definitely off-putting. The better online websites have an online shopping cart that you can fill up and check out right over the Internet. You do not have to call in order to place an order.

If you do call and place an order, you must pay via wire transfer, money order, cashier’s check, or personal check for any orders over $15,000. They do not accept PayPal, debit cards, or credit cards, which is a real disappointment as well.

AJPM Pros

  • The company has more than 30 years of experience in the business
  • They sell a wide variety of platinum, silver, and gold bullion

  • There are very few reviews about the company on the Internet
  • You cannot buy directly from their website and have to call the place your order
  • They do not accept PayPal, debit cards, or credit cards for payments

Bottom Line

At the end of the day, I feel it’s best to avoid working with AJPM. There are too many better companies available to work with that have stellar reputations and hundreds or even thousands of online reviews. You’re better off sticking with a trustworthy company that you know, understand, and believe in.
